Most Intriguing Storyline and One Bold Prediction for Week 9 of NFL Season
I was not planning to write a post this week about storylines coming out of the NFL since we’ll be discussing it on this week’s podcast episode. But something stuck out to me and gave me cause to pause while reading about it. I’ll just provide a brief overview of it then dive into my bold prediction. Okay, let’s see what’s going on in Baltimore.
Roquan Smith, but no receiver?
Now there was quite a bit of player movement this week in the NFL right before the trade deadline, but the one move that particularly stood out to me was Roquan Smith being sent over to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2023 second and fifth round pick. The addition of Smith will help Baltimore shore up a lackluster defense that has performed below expectations up to this point in the season. I can’t help but question though why Baltimore did not use this draft capital to pick up another receiving threat for Lamar Jackson. It’s no surprise to anyone that Baltimore leads the league in pass targets to tight ends and it could be argued that is because of their lack of a true number one receiver on the depth chart. It are moves like this that can force one to question whether or not the front office is intentionally not providing help for Lamar Jackson to help hedge their bets on him not being a quarterback capable of leading them to a super bowl. Now let’s not misunderstand things, Baltimore’s defense has been atrocious so far this season and has even given up three double digit leads in the second half of games all leading to defeats. So the urgency to shore up the defense with the addition of one of the premier linebackers on the market is not lost on me I ashore you. But why not use this opportunity to provide support to your franchise quarterback and show that you’re all in on helping him win a super bowl, could it be because you’re not? Listen I know I’m being a bit of a contrarian in this piece and that you can’t have you cake and eat it too; but when I asked for red velvet and they gave me chocolate I most certainly will be speaking to the manager about it.
One bold Prediction
I’ve got 99 problems and my owner ain’t one. With recent reports coming out this week, it appears that Dan Snyder is in the beginning stages of selling the Washington Commander s franchise. Now sources close to the story have also reported that the selling process will for all intent and purposes be slow and methodical. Sources close to the story have also reported that Jay Z and Jeff Bezos are lead candidates in purchasing the franchise once it becomes for sale. So with all of the news that is going on in the front office of Washington, let’s not be distracted by the fact that the Commanders are currently on a four game winning streak and are currently tied with San Francisco for the final wild card spot. So with the Commanders facing off against the 6-1 Vikings this week, I expect the Commanders to pull off the upset of the week by a score of 27-24 and ride the shift in positive energy that is currently surrounding Washington. Did I mention that 4:44 is Hov’s best album?
