Three Biggest Storylines for Week 7 of CFB Season

What if I told you before the season started that SMU has a legitimate chance of winning the ACC? Or that Kalen DeBoer would be on the/an (over reactionary) hot seat seven weeks into the season? I would not be remiss if you looked at me like I had cake on my face. Or even that a running back from Boise State is the leading candidate to win the Heisman over Travis Hunter and Jalen Milroe. Well, that’s where we’re at..

1. DeBoer Hot Seat

It would not be Alabama football if after one loss everyone starts to question the legitimacy of the program. After a stunning upset loss to Vanderbilt this past weekend, the hardened of Alabama fans are now calling into question whether Kalen Deboer has what it takes to lead the Tide to a national championship. But fear not Alabama fans, Deboer has a proven track record with developing young rosters into title contenders. Not to mention despite the offensive inconsistencies, the Tide still have the 9th best offense in the country with an average of 44.6 points per game. Throw in a favorable schedule moving forward and Tide fans can all but confirm their reservation for the CFB Playoff.

2. Wide Open ACC?!

I understand that this one may take a bit of time to wrap your head around, but hear it out. We all understand what Miami is capable of and how electric their offense CAN be led by quarterback Cam Ward (Heisman finalist? check out our Youtube Channel to find out). However, their inconsistent level of play (see last week’s matchup against Cal) on both sides of the ball has also raised a level of concern for their chances of winning the ACC. Coupled that with the fact that #25 SMU has caught fire with recent victories over Florida St. and #22 Louisville, the high powered offense of the Mustangs have a very legitimate chance of riding their way into an ACC Championship game and surpassing Miami as the best team in the ACC. Throw Clemson in the mix who currently sits atop the ACC at 3-0 in the conference and you have a ride open race to the finish to win the ACC.

3. Ashton Jeanty will win the Heisman

95 carries, 1,031 yards, 16 touchdowns - Ashton Jeanty’s stats seven weeks into the season

Has anyone checked Ashton Jeanty’s stats lately?! The absurd numbers of 95 carries, 1,031 yards, 16 touchdowns, and an average of 10.9 yards per carry are numbers that only can only be replicated by playing NCAA Football 25 on JV mode. The junior running back has been the focal point of the Boise St. offense and is the number one reason that the Broncos have the #1 scoring offense and the #2 rushing attack in the nation. What’s most impressive with all of this is that Jeanty has only played in one full game for the Broncos so far. If Jeanty is able to maintain this historic pace, he will have an excellent chance of breaking the number of rushing records held by Barry Sanders while also becoming the first running back since Derrick Henry in the 2015 season to win the Heisman. Not to mention that the Broncos sit at #2 in the Mountain West Conference, there is also a good chance that the Ashton Jeanty show can be seen on full display in the CFB Playoffs come December. Did I mention that Jeanty was oh so close to transferring to Alabama this past offseason!
